How the greenhouse effect works

A natural warming effect

Water vapour, carbon dioxide and methane are greenhouse gases. The natural greenhouse effect keeps the surface warm enough to support life. Nitrogen and oxygen, the main gases in air, are not the greenhouse gases to recall here.

Water vapour H₂O, carbon dioxide CO₂, methane CH₄ are greenhouse gases.
