When land changes use
People use land for homes, farming, quarries and landfill. These uses provide housing, food, raw materials and waste disposal, but can replace habitats. Less habitat means fewer places for wild organisms to find food, shelter and breeding sites. Populations may decline and some species may disappear locally, reducing biodiversity. A useful explanation links the human activity to habitat loss and then to its effect on organisms.
