Gravity, mass and weight

Key ideas1 of 3

Mass and weight are different

Mass is measured in kilograms, kg. Weight is the force on an object due to gravity, measured in newtons, N. Earth has a gravitational field. The same object has the same mass on Earth and the Moon but different weights because the gravitational field strengths differ.

The same 2 kilogram object on Earth, g 10 newtons per kilogram, and Moon, g 1.6 newtons per kilogram. Weights are blank.
