Higher: force diagrams and components

Key ideas1 of 3

Choose the object or system

A free-body diagram shows forces acting on the chosen object or system. Draw arrows for the forces from other objects; do not mix them with forces the chosen object exerts on its surroundings. In equilibrium, the vector sum of the forces is zero. A balanced object can remain stationary or move at constant velocity.

Forces on one box: normal contact 20 N up, weight 20 N down, push 10 N right and friction 4 N left.
