Work done and energy transfer

Key ideas1 of 3

A force transfers energy

A force does work when it causes displacement. For motion along the force’s line of action, W = Fs: work done = force × distance. W is in joules, J; F in newtons, N; s in metres, m. One joule equals one newton-metre of work.

Start: distance 0 m.
