Higher: fertility treatment and IVF

Hormones can increase fertility

Fertility drugs containing FSH and LH can stimulate egg maturation and release. Fertilisation may then happen through intercourse. IVF is a different route in which eggs are fertilised outside the body.

IVF stages: hormone stimulation matures several eggs; collected eggs and sperm meet in a laboratory dish; cell divisions produce early embryos; an embryo is transferred into the uterus. Implantation is not guaranteed.
