Biology Paper 1 · B3 · Lesson 3.8

Vaccination

A quicker immune response and less spread through a population.

Key ideas1 of 3

Prepare the immune system

A vaccine exposes the immune system to pathogen antigens safely. For example, it may contain dead or inactive pathogen material. White blood cells respond by making specific antibodies.

Vaccine antigens stimulate white blood cells to make specific antibodies. Memory cells remain.

Vaccines stimulate an immune response; they do not simply supply ready-made antibodies.
