Fuel releases energy

A fuel is burned to release energy. Crude-oil fractions supply petrol for cars, diesel oil for many engines, kerosene for aircraft, heavy fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gases.

Examples of crude-oil products and uses: petrol for cars, kerosene for aircraft, diesel oil for engines, lubricants for moving parts.
