Density practical: solid objects

Measure the mass and find the volume in two different ways.

Key ideas1 of 4

A regular block

Measure mass with a zeroed balance. Measure length, width and height with a ruler, or suitable callipers for small dimensions. For a cuboid, volume = length × width × height.

A rectangular block measures 4 cm long, 3 cm wide and 2 cm high. A balance reads 192 grams. Volume is 24 cubic centimetres.

Use the same length unit for all three dimensions.
