Physics Paper 1 · P3 · Lesson 3.1

Solids, liquids and gases

Use moving particles to explain what matter does.

Key ideas1 of 3

Three states, one particle model

A solid keeps its shape and volume. A liquid flows and keeps its volume. A gas spreads out to fill its container. The circles represent particles, not bubbles.

Solid, liquid and gas particle arrangements; equal numbers of equal-sized particles.

The diagrams are models, not photographs of particles.
