Receiving and carrying information
The eye contains receptors sensitive to light intensity and colour. Light enters through the transparent cornea, passes through the pupil and lens, and reaches the retina. Receptors in the retina convert the stimulus into electrical signals. The optic nerve carries impulses towards the brain. The tough sclera supports and protects the eye; it is not the light-sensitive layer.
