Reduce energy transfers
Food animals use energy for movement and maintaining their body temperature as well as for growth. Limiting movement and controlling the temperature of their surroundings can reduce these energy demands. More of the energy supplied in food may then be retained in new biomass. This can improve production efficiency, but does not mean respiration stops. Animals still need energy for essential cellular processes and must remain healthy.
