Atom economy: useful product or waste?

Where do the reactant atoms go?

Atom economy measures how much of the reactant mass ends up in the desired product. A reaction that makes only one product has 100% atom economy. It could still have a low percentage yield in an experiment.

Reactants become desired and other products; atom economy measures the mass going into the desired product.
