Making common glass
Soda-lime glass is made by heating sand, sodium carbonate and limestone together. It is used for windows and many bottles because it is transparent, hard and chemically resistant in ordinary use. Glass is brittle, so a large force can make it fracture instead of bending. Its useful properties come with limitations that must be considered when choosing it for a product.
