Biology Paper 1 · B4 · Lesson 4.2

What plants do with glucose

From a sugar molecule to stored food and new plant material.

Key ideas1 of 3

Use it or store it

Plants use glucose in respiration to transfer energy. They can convert glucose into starch or oils for storage. Starch is insoluble, so it is useful for storage.

Glucose can be used in respiration or converted into starch or fat/oil for storage.

Glucose made in the light can support respiration later.
