Link evidence to a function
Scientists can investigate brain function by studying people with brain damage, electrically stimulating small areas and using MRI scanning techniques. If damage is associated with a lost ability, that provides evidence that the affected region contributes to that ability. It does not prove the region works alone: several connected areas can be affected, and the extent of damage varies between people.
