Short sight and long sight
In myopia, or short sightedness, distant objects are not sharply focused because their light focuses in front of the retina. In hyperopia, or long sightedness, nearby objects are difficult to focus on; light would focus behind the retina. Ray diagrams show where rays meet compared with the retinal plane. Judge the position, not simply whether the rays cross somewhere.
